The Injustice of Being a Plus Sized Bride

Julie

Own your curves by wearing the perfect wedding dress!

There are millions of women who are fall into the “plus-size” category, yet there don’t seem to be many plus size bridal dresses in the major brick-and-mortar stores for brides to try on. It can be intimidating, disappointing, and downright depressing to search in stores to no avail. But there are ways you can prepare yourself for a potentially tough search for your perfect plus size wedding dress. With a few tips, you’ll be able to find exactly what you want – you beautiful, elegant flower.

Plan Ahead

If you’re planning on going the brick-and-mortar store route, be sure to plan ahead to make sure the store you have in mind is plus size friendly. Ask if they have sample dresses in larger sizes, and make sure the lines they carry offer plus sizes. Bridal sizes run smaller, so keep in mind your dress size will likely be higher. Also remember that all sizes across all brands are different, and that size is just a silly number.

Be Open to Shopping Online

Reality bites. And the reality of plus size bridal is that it’s difficult to find in actual stores. Although you may have the dream of shopping with your mother, your maid of honor, and perhaps your future mother-in-law (if you must) in a store to find the perfect dress, you may have to be open to going online. But don’t let it get you down! There are more options online, it’s more plus size friendly, and you don’t have to deal with a wedding dress consultant trying to convince you to try on the veil and crystal necklace that are “on sale for a limited time.” You might have to be willing to order a few dresses and send back the rejects after trying them on (double check the return policy!), but shopping online can be a valuable asset in the search for your perfect plus size wedding dress.

Stick to a Budget

Another injustice – Because higher sizes require more material, plus size wedding dresses are often more expensive than “straight sized” wedding dresses. But as a fashionable plus-sized woman, you may already be used to that. You already probably have to pay a pretty penny for high-quality, fashionable clothes, and wedding dress shopping will be no different. That doesn’t mean you have to break the bank to get a beautiful gown, however. Set a budget and stick to it. There’s something out there in every price range for every bride.

Own Your Curves

You are beautiful. Say it out loud to the mirror right now and every day for the rest of your life. Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to wear a giant, white bag on your wedding day just because you’re plus sized. Plus sized brides CAN find, wear, and 100% rock a beautiful, form-fitting wedding dress. What matters is that it fits in a way that makes you feel confident and gorgeous on your big day.
